Bhopal, Jun 29 (PTI) President Pratibha Patil today
called upon the distance education institutions to ensure that
they reach the doorstep of those who are unable to continue
their studies in the formal system.
"Universities, specially distance education institutions,
must reach at the doorstep of those people who are unable to
complete their education due to various reasons," Patil said
after inaugurating the newly constructed Administrative and
Academic Block of Bhoj Open University here.
The foundation stone of the building was laid by former
President late Dr Shankar Dayal Sharma in 1992.
"Distance education universities should play a vital role
in educating women living in far-flung areas, so that they can
be associated with the development process of the country,"
Patil said.
For taking the country to its zenith of development, it
is absolutely necessary to educate the women, she said.
Patil said that since last few years, distance education
technique has developed a lot in the country specially with
the amalgamation of information and communication technology
including electronic and satellite-based technology.
"After the beginning of Edusat, two-way communication
technology has developed with the help of video and radio
enabling establishment of communication between teacher and
the pupil. Such a technology can play a vital role in
spreading education in rural areas," she said. (MORE)
